| Noise Control for Combined Cycle Power Plants |
Hessler Associates specializes in the acoustical design and testing of combined cycle power stations.
Over the past decade the firm has been involved in the development of hundreds of plants employing
every type of combustion turbine up to and including the largest and latest models, such as the Siemens-
Westinghouse 501G and the General Electric 9FA.
Our engineers are intimately familiar with operational mechanics of these facilities, with all of the
component systems and, most importantly, with the typical noise emissions of every source. This
experience enables us to predict what noise controls and in what optimal combination will be needed
to meet any applicable off-site noise limit.

Typical Project Tasks
» Pre-construction ambient noise surveys
» Computer modeling of plant noise
» Environmental impact assessments
» Equipment noise specifications
» Review vendor submittals
» Acoustical design optimization studies
» Diagnostic measurements of existing noise problems
» Construction noise assessment
» Permitting and public hearing support
» Expert witness testimony
» Field testing of completed facility
» Contractual compliance testing
» Official certification testing
» Application for Certification (AFC) support for projects in California

In addition to steady state noise during base load operation we also have extensive experience in dealing
with transient noises that occur during normal start-ups, such as steam turbine bypass, steam venting,
blowdown, hogging, etc.
